Several demonstrations and rallies give the people of Hamburg the opportunity to speak out for peace in the Ukraine on Thursday. The largest event is likely to be the Fridays for Future demo in the city center with tens of thousands of participants.
At 12 noon, the Fridays for Future (FFF) climate movement and numerous youth organizations want to move from Spielbudenplatz through the city center back to St. Pauli under the motto “Solidarity for Ukraine”. They follow the call of the Ukrainian FFF movement for a global protest against the war of aggression in Ukraine.
Ukraine: Tens of thousands of people demonstrate in Hamburg
According to the police, the organizers expect tens of thousands of people to attend the climate movement rally. Hamburg’s school senator Ties Rabe (SPD) has released all around 250,000 schoolchildren from classes for this time. The police expect significant traffic delays and ask that the city center be avoided.

From 6 p.m., the Hamburg State Music Council invites you to the peace demonstration “Sing for Peace” on the Rathausmarkt. “The State Music Council is dismayed by the Russian attack on Ukraine. We demand an immediate end to all acts of war. Together with the whole music scene, with professionals and amateurs and everyone who joins, we want to raise our voices for peace.”

There will also be musical protests on Thursday evening in front of the Russian Consulate General at the Feenteich on the Uhlenhorst. The Hamburg techno brass band Meute will give a concert from 5.30 p.m. “We want to show our solidarity to the people in Ukraine and Russia who are protesting against the bloodshed,” said band leader Thomas Burhorn in the Zeit newsletter “Elbvertiefung”. There will be neither a stage, an amplifier system nor a speech, but will remain a short action. (dpa/fbo)
