An Al Jazeera correspondent said that demonstrators stormed an airport in Dagestan, which is affiliated with the Russian Federation, after a plane coming from Israel landed.
In turn, Agence France-Presse reported that the authorities in Makhachkala, the capital of the republic – with a Muslim majority – closed the airport to air traffic, after dozens stormed the airport following reports of the landing of a plane coming from Israel.
According to the “Flight Radar” website, which specializes in tracking air traffic, a flight belonging to the Russian company “Red Wings” coming from Tel Aviv landed at seven o’clock in the evening local time at Makhachkala Airport.
According to the independent Russian website “Sota”, the flight landed in transit and is scheduled to take off again towards Moscow.
The demonstrators – denouncing the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip – entered the passenger building, reached the airport runway, and crossed the barriers with the aim of searching departing cars in search of Israeli passengers, according to video clips broadcast by the Russian Izvestia agency and the RT channel and circulated on social media.
Before storming the arrivals hall, a number of demonstrators also tried to check the passports of people leaving the airport in search of Israeli citizens.
One of the demonstrators was seen holding a sign that read, “There is no place for child killers in Dagestan.”
The Russian Aviation Agency announced that “following the storming of unidentified individuals into the navigation area at Makhachkala Airport, the decision was taken to temporarily close it to arrival and take-off flights,” and all planes heading to Makhachkala were diverted to other airports.
The government of the Russian Republic of Dagestan later announced that the security services were “working” at Makhachkala Airport, indicating that “the situation is under control.”
The Russian Aviation Authority said that security forces evacuated Makhachkala Airport of all unauthorized citizens.
Israeli media said that following the storm, security authorities at the airport placed a number of Israelis and Jews under their supervision to protect them from angry demonstrators.
In response to Tel Aviv, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that it is following up with the Foreign Ministry and the National Security Presidency the developments of events in Dagestan, adding that Israel expects Russian law enforcement authorities to maintain the safety of all Israeli citizens and Jews wherever they are.
The Israeli statement added, “We must act decisively against the rioters and against the unbridled incitement directed against Jews and Israelis.”
It was stated, in a statement by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the Israeli ambassador to Moscow is working with the Russian authorities to ensure the safety of Israelis and Jews.
The statement added, “The State of Israel views attempts aimed at harming Israeli citizens and Jews anywhere as a dangerous matter,” the statement said.
The storming came in the midst of the Israeli aggression on Gaza in the wake of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, where the number of martyrs in Gaza reached more than 8,000 martyrs, including 3,342 children, 2,062 women, and 460 elderly people, in addition to nearly 20,000 wounded, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. .
