Demonstrations – Zell am Main – Numerous climate demos also planned in Bavaria – Bavaria

Munich (dpa / lby) – Against the background of the war in Ukraine, people want to demonstrate in Bavaria in a number of places on Friday for more climate protection. Fridays for Future (FFF) has called for a worldwide “climate strike” to promote a move away from all fossil fuels. “Germany has made itself dependent on Putin’s energies,” criticize the organizers of the demos. “Livelihoods are collapsing worldwide and we have become politically blackmailable.”

In the Free State, protests are not only planned in the state capital and other large cities. There are also rallies in smaller communities such as Wolfratshausen, Lindau, Neuburg an der Donau, Parsberg or Schwabach on the list of demonstrations. According to the FFF, more than 1000 demonstrations are planned worldwide and more than 300 in Germany alone.

In the Diocese of Würzburg, the Oberzeller Franciscan Sisters are also taking part in the “Global Climate Strike”. The nuns from Zell am Main want to form a human chain along the monastery wall at noon (12.45 p.m.).

According to the Federal Nature Conservation Agency (BN), the largest protest event is planned for Munich’s Königsplatz. BN chairman Richard Mergner said the federal government needed to be reminded of its climate targets. “The envisaged measures are not sufficient to quickly free us from our dependence on autocrats and their fossil fuels and to combat the climate crisis as quickly and effectively as possible,” said Mergner.
