Olivia, 6, was kidnapped by her father, Tomás Gimeno, along with her younger sister Anna (1). That happened at the end of April in Tenerife.
The 37-year-old father had separated from the mother and informed her that he would not bring the two children back and that she would never see them again. The next day his boat was found bobbing in the sea.

Tied to anchor
After a long search, Olivia’s body was found last week. A ship belonging to the Spanish authorities found the body at a depth of 1,000 meters on the seabed near Tenerife.
The girl’s body was in a bag tied to an anchor at the bottom. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez previously said that “the whole country is in shock” following the events.

An investigating judge suspects that the father killed his daughter. He is said to have said that he wanted to cause his ex-wife ‘the greatest pain imaginable’. The body of Anna is still being searched, but so far without result.
‘World collapsed’
The girls’ mother wrote an open letter last weekend. “Killing your own innocent children is the most monstrous act anyone can commit,” she wrote. “When they told me the news, my world collapsed. As hard as it is, at least now I can mourn their loss.”

‘Violence against mothers’
Hundreds of people have protested against domestic violence in several Spanish cities in recent days. Spanish Equality Minister Irene Montero Gil said this is violence against women and mothers.
Since 2013, according to official figures, an average of nearly six minors have been murdered each year by their fathers, mother’s partners or ex-partners.
