Bolsonaro’s popularity has suffered greatly from crises that – at least in part according to experts – are the result of his policies.

For example, the number of deaths from the corona virus is the second highest number in the world with more than 580,000. A Congressional investigation into the government’s response to the coronavirus crisis mainly revealed mismanagement.

Inflation, which is very much feared in Brazil, is also high. The currency depreciation has reached double digits in percentages. The costs of food, fuel and electricity have soared.

Polls show that if former president Lula da Silva were to participate, he would defeat Bolsonaro in the presidential election.
