Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – While Freiburg has banned unregistered meetings of opponents of the Corona measures until the end of January, several thousand people are expected to attend an announced protest in the city on Saturday. The city announced that around 4,000 participants will be expected. Strict conditions have been issued. Among other things, the mask requirement would have to be complied with and the demonstration march would have to be divided into individual sections. “The organizer must also ensure that there is a sufficient number of law enforcement officers,” said the city.
Protests are also expected in other cities in Baden-Württemberg on Saturday. Several demonstrations have already been registered.
On Friday, Freiburg issued a general order according to which so-called Monday walks are prohibited with “immediate effect”. With the actions that were not registered, the demonstrators aimed to pull through the city without the usual requirements – in particular without compliance with the necessary infection protection measures, such as the mask requirement. This behavior endangered public safety and order, especially against the background of the spread of the Omikron virus variant, the municipality said.
