Demonstrations – Freiburg im Breisgau – tens of thousands expected at climate protests in the southwest – politics

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Shortly before the federal election, the young climate protectors from Fridays for Future want to take to the streets again in the southwest for an intensified fight against global warming. The alliance is planning more than 80 climate strikes in the country. The biggest demo is to take place on Friday (12.00 noon) in Freiburg, the police assume 10,000 participants. The climate movement expects 2000 demonstrators in Stuttgart. Fridays for Future calls for measures to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

In Baden-Württemberg, the Greens, the Left, the Catholic and Protestant Churches and the GEW teachers’ union called for participation. The GEW asked the school administrators to enable children and young people to take part in the demos. The green-led Ministry of Culture showed understanding for the commitment. However, the protest can also take place in the afternoon, when it mostly does not collide with compulsory schooling.
