Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) – A protest action by some climate protection demonstrators at Frankfurt Airport on Friday had no major effects. Three activists from the group “Last Generation” wanted to release 99 balloons there early in the morning. A police spokesman said that the people had been given a place reference and the action could have been stopped. There were no restrictions in the airport area.

The initiative announced on Twitter on Friday morning that it wanted to protest “against fossil wars and for citizen participation” with the balloon campaign. Similar actions were also planned at the airports in Berlin and Munich, as the initiative announced in a press release on Wednesday. In Berlin, according to the police, two activists were taken into custody near the capital’s BER airport. A BER spokeswoman said there were no restrictions on air traffic at the capital’s airport.
