Demonstrations – Erfurt – Around 1200 people demonstrate against AfD rally with Höcke – politics

Altenburg (dpa) – With drums, choirs, cultural contributions and banners, around 1200 people demonstrated against an AfD rally in Altenburg, East Thuringia. A police spokeswoman put the number of AfD sympathizers at around 400 on Thursday evening. At the rally entitled “Unity makes you strong”, AfD right wingers Björn Höcke and Andreas Kalbitz appeared. Their supporters held up signs with slogans like “Grandpas Against Left” and “Don’t Give Gates a Chance”.

According to the police, there were no major incidents. One case of the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations is known, it said. The police were deployed with a large contingent to secure and separate the two demonstrations on the Altenburg market square.
