Demons Ate My Neighbors! – Campy co-op horror announced for PC and Nintendo Switch, with Kickstarter starting September 1st

Demons Ate My Neighbors! is a retro twin stick roguelike shooter developed at Tuned-Out Gamy and HumaNature Studios by Greg Johnson and the team behind ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!. The game brings iconic arcade horror nostalgia to PC and Nintendo Switch in the third quarter of 2021.

1991 – It seems to be a normal, muggy July day in the sleepy suburb of Fairweather Valley … until a cursed VHS tape unleashes indescribable horror on the neighborhood and generally really messes up April’s and Joey’s summer. The heroes must exorcise their hellish neighbors, fight their way to the cursed high school, and rewind their summers to save the world!

Two heads are better than none. As a couple in local co-op, Splasha water pistols full of holy water go hunting. With the overpump function, players let the holy H2Oh hell go on the demons, spray them with different types of shots, effects and overblasts – and improve the status values of the Splasha with nitro splash tanks that can be found all over Fairweather.

With the radical radar radio RadWatch you avoid getting lost in the randomly generated levels in search of possessed citizens. Killing monsters can improve the range of the radio and make it easier to find survivors. Depending on the player’s decisions, some residents will change frequency and mutate into challenging opponents who give players three options: DAMN, REDEEM or DIE. Those who are nice can use their sacred high-tech arsenal to steal their enemies’ energy and REDEEM them from evil, or attack them with deadly lo-fi weapons so that they stay DAMNED.

By knocking over and looting mailboxes or garbage cans, April and Joey can find useful household items that they use against the monsters’ weak points. Zombos are frozen, zaplings are electrified and vampunks are rendered harmless with garlic pizza. Boss opponents drop VHS tokens that unlock permanent bonuses in the secret hiding place.

Demons Ate My Neighbors! reminds of teen horror cartoons of the 80s and 90s and with its manic and humorous atmosphere is a literal spiritual successor to the 90s co-op classics. The 16-bit characters feel at home in the top-down 3D world full of nightmarish nostalgia and are accompanied by a funky soundtrack penned by Sonic Mania veterans Tee Lopes, Varien, Nice Legs and Papoose.

Of the Demons Ate My Neighbors!-Kickstarter starts on Thursday September 1st. Tuned-Out Games have set a goal of $ 175,000 to fund additional levels, monsters and more.
