VALENCIA. (EP) The Contentious Administrative Court number 4 of Valencia has provisionally suspended the demolition license of the building of the old Metropol cinema.
In this way, the judge in charge of the appeal filed with the Goerlich Foundation against the demolition of the property has estimated the precautionary measure requested by this entity, consisting of paralyzing the demolition until a final judgment is delivered, Las Provincias has advanced and they have confirmed to Europa Press sources of the foundation.
The Valencia City Council granted the license last April recommending preserving the historic façade and the Metropol sign and making it compatible with the proposed hotel use, although the builder of the 54-room hotel has filed an appeal to avoid having to comply with that municipal suggestion.
However, from the Goerlich Foundation they are confident that, after this precautionary measure, the sentence will end up declaring the demolition license void and allow the option of cataloging the building, “which deserves it for its art deco decoration and for being one of the latest vestiges of that avant-garde and modernity of the thirties in the city”.
“We understand that it is a real nonsense to demolish,” sources from the entity have asserted to Europa Press. For this reason, they have expressed their joy at this first judicial measure, although they point out that it is not a definitive victory.
The spokesperson for the municipal government in the Valencian capital, Juan Carlos Caballero, has also referred to this issue, who in the press conference after the Local Government Board has been asked about these precautionary measures and whether the new municipal executive that forms the PP is committed to maintaining the facade of the Metropol.
“We respect the precautionary measure. From the PP we have always asked that the Metropol façade be respected and protected, for which our criteria will be that it be maintained,” the spokesman replied.
Thus, he has declared that “the precautionary measure” is respected and has pointed out that the PP -as it already requested when it was in opposition, it has specified- will request “that the façade be maintained and protected”.
