Democrats Respond to PDIP Close Coalition for 2024 Presidential Election: Hasto Panic

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) Democratic party, Irwan, stated that the Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto is panicking about the current political situation.

According to him, this can be seen from Hasto’s statement that he closed the door to a coalition with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and Democrats in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) because of different ideologies.

“What Hasto said I see as a panic disorder“No wind, no rain, suddenly Hasto drew a firm line,” said Irwan CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (29/5).

He views Hasto’s statement even more emphasizing that PDIP is enjoying the state of national division that has occurred since the 2014 presidential election.

According to Irwan, Hasto’s panic indicates that the PDIP is afraid of the Democratic Party, which continues to receive great sympathy from the Indonesian people today. He considered that Hasto had lost his current political rationality.

“[Hasto] “I lost rational control in the midst of the condition of the presidential election which is still far away and is still the focus of the Covid-19 pandemic and national economic recovery,” he said.

On the other hand, Irwan said, Hasto’s statement regarding the party’s ideology is dangerous because it has the potential to divide national unity by creating a false and misguided label on PDIP’s political opponents. Irwan emphasized that Pancasila has always been a political ideology promoted by the Democratic Party.

“All parties certainly have an ideology and the final ideology of the Democratic party is Pancasila,” he said.

Previously, PDIP said it closed the door to a coalition with PKS and the Democratic Party in the 2024 presidential election. PDIP stated that it was more open to a coalition with the Gerindra Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the United Development Party (PPP) and the National Mandate Party (PAN) for reasons of ideological similarities.

Hasto said his party’s ideological basis with PKS and Democrats is different. According to him, PDIP is an ideological party that also relies on the power of the masses.

“PDIP is different from PKS, because the ideological basis is different, so it is very difficult to form a coalition with PKS,” said Hasto in a discussion held by PARA Syndicate, Friday (28/5).
