Democrats of Catalonia has closed an agreement with Together for Catalonia to dissolve its executive committees and join the management from the party of the escaped former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemontless than a week before the start of the congress of the secessionist formation in Calella (Barcelona).
The text of the agreement, which Junts sources have confirmed to Efe, indicates that the two formations “merge into a single political and electoral unity to promote a transversal alternative that returns the pro-independence majority to all Catalan institutions.”
Dissolution
The agreement commits Demòcrates, led by Antoni Castellàa dissolve all its executive committees and no longer stand for election with its initialsin order to become part of the bodies of Junts addresswhich next weekend will hold its congress in Calella (Barcelona) to reconfigure the direction.
For its part, Puigdemont’s formation assumes as its own the Foundation Democrats of Catalonia (FunDem)from the Castellà party, to which all his thought and training actions will be derived.
Ratification this Monday
The executives of both parties must ratify the agreement this Monday and, the next day, it is expected that the general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turulland the leader of Democrats, Antoni Castellà, sign the pact.
Leader of Demòcrates, pro-independence split of the former Democratic Union of Catalonia (UDC)Castellà has become part of Puigdemont’s core of trust through his self-proclaimed Consell de la República and is one of the new heavyweights of the party, so it is not ruled out that, after this integration, he could occupy one of the vice presidencies of Junts.
