In the United States there are less than two weeks to go to mid-term elections. The Democrats are still struggling. According to polls, they should lose the lower house. It remains to be seen whether the status quo will be preserved in the Senate. In New York, Democrats are concerned about the office of governor: Kathy Hochul’s lead, in office since last year, has cracked in recent weeks.

Unions have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on advertising in recent days to invite African Americans and Latinos to vote for the outgoing governor.

Because Kathy Hochul – it’s their fear anyway – may not have done enough to mobilize this electorate normally won over by the Democratic cause. In recent months, she has campaigned against her opponent Lee Zeldin and her too close proximity to Donald Trump, saying that he limit the right to abortion if he had been elected. Today it aligns with the theme chosen by Lee Zeldin, and by Republicans in general: security.
Kathy Hochul announced of new cops for the New York subway, visits Harlem churches to assure black voters how important safety is to her. So beware: polls still lead by 4-11 points, but local Democrats aren’t used to such a narrow gap. Hence this overflow of energy and money at the last moment, to prevent some from going to the polls.
