Democrats extend majority in House, exchange in Senate

At the same time as the presidential election, the United States also voted for the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In the Senate, Democrats and Republicans have exchanged seats. Democrat John Hickenlooper defeated Republican Cory Gardner. He takes over one of Colorado’s two seats. For Alabama, Republican Tommy Tuberville won from Democrat Doug Jones.

Republican Senator for South Carolina Lindsey Graham managed to keep his seat by beating Democrat Jamie Harrison. The latter raised more than $ 100 million for his campaign.

35 of the 100 Senate seats are elected. 65 seats remain unchanged: 33 from Democrats, 30 from Republicans and 2 independents. The Democrats defend 12 of the remaining seats, the Republicans 23. Before the election, the Senate consisted of 53 Republicans and 45 Democrats. Two senators are non-party.

More Democrats in the House

In the House of Representatives, the Democrats have increased their majority. According to Fox News, the Democrats will get at least five more seats. The House has a total of 435 members. The Democrats currently have 232, the Republicans 197.
