Party Democrats (PD) defended Rocky Gerung who is considered to have insulted President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ended up being policed. Chairman of the Democratic Bappilu Andi Arief believes that Rocky Gerung is not appointing anyone regarding his statement.

In the same vein, Deputy for Bappilu Democrat Kamhar Lakumani regretted the response of Jokowi’s volunteers who reported Rocky Gerung to the police. He also brought up this volunteer who went viral after his video statement asking Jokowi for a “combat permit” from the opposition.
“We certainly disapprove of the response of Jokowi’s volunteers who are anti-critical and little by little respond to dynamics that are in the form of public discourse into the realm of law. Moreover, the volunteer leader who will report Rocky Gerung previously had a viral video asking Mr. Jokowi’s permission to attack parties who are at odds with Mr. Jokowi,” said Kamhar.

Kamhar thinks that Jokowi needs to do cawe-cawe about the action of his volunteers. Also, according to him, the criticism conveyed by Rocky Gerung is still in the corridors of democracy.
“Responding to a situation like this, Jokowi can go around to discipline his volunteers. Those who are not sensitive enough to take legal action a little bit, and then read the law, are only quick and agile in responding to volunteer reports, but not the other way around,” he said.
“In addition, the criticism that has been conveyed by Rocky Gerung is still within reasonable limits in the corridors of democracy and academics as guardians of the public’s common sense so that sanity and balance are maintained in society,” he continued.
