Democratic Representative from Texas, Henry Cuellar, was attacked by three armed men near the Congress building in Washington, D.C., on Monday evening, where they stole his car, and a search is underway for them, according to Al Hurra’s correspondent.
The car was stolen in the Navy Yard area in southeastern Washington, one mile from the US Capitol building, by thieves who seized it and his luggage, according to what the Washington Post reported from the Metropolitan Police and the Congressman’s office.
The newspaper quoted police as saying that at least one of the car hijackers was carrying a gun.
Cuellar’s office told CNN that he was not injured in the incident.
According to the Washington Post, the car theft appears to have occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. Eastern time, at the intersection of New Jersey and Kay Streets.
There are no indications of any injuries so far, and it was not clear whether the car’s Texas license plate indicated that the owner was a member of Congress, according to the newspaper.
Cuellar is in his tenth term in the House of Representatives, and represents the South Texas district that includes Laredo and San Antonio, according to the newspaper.
