Democratic Party Secretary General Responds to Evaluation of Support for Anies Baswedan’s Presidential Candidacy

Jakarta

Secretary General of the Party Democrats Jansen Sitindaon responded to the matter of evaluating support for the presidential candidate of the Coalition for Change, Anies Baswedan. Jansen emphasized that the evaluation was not a threat.

“So we asked Mas Anies Baswedan to convey who the vice presidential candidate is, yes, no later than this June. That’s fixed, because it has been conveyed in the public sphere. The meaning of the evaluation here should not be considered a threat, yes, it must be remembered, this Democratic Party is the founder of the coalition, the owner of this coalition,” said Jansen in Adu Perspektif detikcom with Total Politics, Wednesday (14/6/2023).

Jansen said that the formation of the Coalition for Change did not contain elements of coercion from certain parties. This coalition, he said, was initiated by the Democratic Party.

“And we formed this coalition consciously, there was no coercion from any party. So the formation of this coalition is exactly as mandated by the constitution, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates are proposed by political parties,” he said.

“So this is purely a coalition that we formed on the awareness of the Democratic Party itself and two of our other friends without any pressure from any party,” he continued.

Furthermore, he also stressed that the Democrats would not leave the coalition to support Anies.

“So don’t be interpreted then as the Democratic Party because it gives an evaluation it wants to go smoothly from the boat, this isn’t it, there are many opportunities, Mr. Ketum AHY, we will try to sail this coalition to whatever island we are going to,” he said.

Previously, the Democrat Party suspected that the electability survey of Anies Baswedan’s Coalition of Change for Unity presidential candidate would decline because there was no declaration of a vice presidential candidate. The Democrats have opened the option of evaluating if there has not been a pair declaration by this June.

“If there is no pair declaration in June, it is likely that the Democrats will evaluate it,” said Democratic Party Election Winning Body Chairman Andi Arief to reporters, Monday (5/6).

When asked the purpose of the evaluation, Andi Arief said that the evaluation was comprehensive.

“A thorough evaluation,” said Andi.
