Democratic Party Insists on AHY as Anies Baswedan’s Running Mate in 2024 Presidential Election: NasDem Treasurer Reveals

General Treasurer of the NasDem Party DPP Ahmad Sahroni reveals that the Democratic Party continues to force Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (ME) was promoted to co-vice president Anies Baswedan Of 2024 presidential election.

“Yes, they basically forced AHY to accompany Anies,” said Sahroni at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday (9/6).

Sahroni at the same time denied the Democratic Party Bappilu Chairman Andi Arief’s statement after claiming that only the General Chairperson of AHY agreed to the requirements to become a companion for the presidential candidate of the Change Coalition for Unity (KPP).

“Not yet brought forward. Back off where? People haven’t been asked,” he said.

Sahroni has no problem with Andi’s claim. However, he emphasized that no one would refuse if he was offered to be Anies’ vice presidential candidate.

“Yes, Andi Arief can say those things, it’s okay, everyone can say the words to say that Anies’ vice-presidential candidate has been asked but they have resigned. It’s impossible, who will refuse? Surely everyone what do you want,” he said.

Even so, Sahroni admitted that he had no problem with the Democrats continuing to push for Anies’ vice presidential candidate to be announced. According to him, it is common for big parties to want their cadres to become cawapres.

Andi Arief previously claimed that only AHY agreed to the requirements for running for Anies’s companion, out of the six names listed in the former Governor of DKI Jakarta’s cawapres exchange.

Andi said most of the six people had met Anies directly and had communicated with the KPP. As a result, Andi claims, the five people are not capable, and only AHY is ideal.

He considered that AHY’s suitability as Anies’ companion was not solely because AHY was the eldest son of the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, but rather that AHY had the capability and met the cawapres requirements needed by Anies.

“Indeed, other figures cannot. Only the chairman of AHY is able to accept the people’s challenge to bring aspirations for change and improvement,” said Andi.

Even so, Andi admitted that his party also offered other names to be considered as Anies’ vice presidential candidate. They include East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Chairman of PBNU’s Strategic Innovation Development Agency Yenny Wahid.

Then the former TNI Commander Andika Perkasa, Deputy Chairman of the PKS Syura Council Ahmad Heryawan (Aher), PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu, Chairman of the PKS Shura Council Ahmad Salim Segaf, and West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil.

He also denied that anyone said the Democrats forced AHY to become Anies’ vice presidential candidate.

“The Democratic Party has never forced AHY to become Anies Baswedan’s Deputy Vice President. Please ask Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan, General Chair of the Nasdem Party and General Chair of the PKS. In fact, the Democratic Party agreed to hand over the decision to the Vice President to the Presidential Candidates in accordance with the Coalition Charter,” said Andi.
