Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (ME) spoke about the vice presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. AHY said he did not want to make assumptions regarding Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate.
“I prefer or we, the Democratic Party, prefer to hand it over to Pak Prabowo, I don’t want to assume other simulations,” said AHY after the Democratic Party national meeting, at the JCC, Central Jakarta, Thursday (21/9/ 2023).
AHY then handed over the vice presidential candidate to Prabowo. AHY said his party would give Prabowo freedom to choose his vice presidential candidate.
“We really want to give Mr. Prabowo the freedom to be the joint presidential candidate to determine his running mate, to determine his partner, in the sense that he himself should determine the criteria for a vice presidential candidate that he considers important to be able to win the contest,” he explained.
After that, said AHY, the figure of the vice presidential candidate will be measured if he is elected and wins. He said that if the pair could bring victory, then that figure would be worthy of accompanying Prabowo.
“Only after that is it measured if they are elected, if they win, then the partner can also accompany them, running the government at the central level,” he explained.
AHY emphasized that he would not go too deep into determining Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate. He believes Prabowo will respect the views of the political parties in the Advanced Indonesia Coalition.
“So once again I don’t want to go too far into this area, we will give that freedom to Mr Prabowo Subianto, and I am sure he will also respect the aspirations and views of all of us, including the Democratic Party,” he said.
Previously, the Democratic Party officially supported Prabowo as the 2024 presidential candidate. This was conveyed directly by the General Chair of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, at the Democratic Party’s national leadership meeting (Rapimnas) at the JCC, Central Jakarta.
“This evening, Thursday 21 September 2023, at the National Leadership Meeting of the Democratic Party at the Jakarta Convention Center, I, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, General Chair of the Democratic Party, officially and openly declared Mr. Prabowo Subianto as a candidate for president of the Republic of Indonesia in the 2024 elections. ” said AHY during the national team meeting.
Prabowo also welcomed this support. Prabowo admitted that he was ready to receive support from the Democratic Party.
“For the support and decision to nominate me, I convey here, my feelings of emotion, mixed with my pride, for being nominated by the Democratic Party. This support for me is a form of trust and hope placed on my shoulders together with the other parties. “Other parties have supported me,” said Prabowo.
