Democratic-controlled Administration Rejects House Republicans’ Request to Exclude Ukrainian Military Aid from Bill in Support of Israel

The Democratic-controlled United States administration has rejected House Republicans’ demand to exclude funds for Ukraine from the military aid bill to Israel. This was stated by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a written statement.

This is how the American executive branch responded to the bill proposed by Republican congressmen, which does not include assistance to Kiev, and funding for assistance to Israel is proposed by reducing the funds allocated for the Internal Revenue Service (IR, the federal tax department).

“The politicization of our national security interests is impossible,” she noted.

According to her, “demanding compensation for basic US national security needs, such as support for Israel and defense of Ukraine,” would be a violation of the normal “bipartisan process and could have devastating consequences for [американской] security and alliances in the coming years.”

Politics that jeopardizes Israel’s source of self-defense funding—now and in the future—would set an unacceptable precedent that calls into question our commitment to one of our closest allies. We cannot afford to jeopardize these commitments as Israel defends itself from the evil that [палестинское радикальное движение] Hamas,” she added.

In addition to reducing funding for the SVD, Republicans proposed considering aid packages for Israel and Ukraine separately, and not combining them into one. The proposed initiative includes $4 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems, as well as $1.2 billion for the development of the latest Iron Beam laser system. If approved by the House of Representatives, the bill could face serious challenges in the Senate, where lawmakers favor combining aid for Israel and Ukraine into one package.

Earlier, the White House submitted a request for additional national security funding in the amount of $106 billion, including funds to provide assistance to Israel and Ukraine, as well as to counter China in the Asia-Pacific region.

“The threat to undermine American national security if Republicans do not help the rich and large corporations avoid paying taxes, which will lead to larger (budget) deficits, is the definition of regression,” Jean-Pierre said.
