“Continuing the change – Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) will demand a hearing and a report from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in the National Assembly on what has been done to help Ukraine.
Coalition MP Ivaylo Mirchev commented on Monday that “our country can help Ukraine a lot, but it is delayed because of the not so optimal work of the administration of the Ministry of Defense”.
Defense Minister Todor Tagarev has been constantly criticized by GERB leader Boyko Borisov and the head of DPS deputies Delyan Peevski, including that he does not sufficiently defend to the public the need for direct military aid to Kyiv.
Now the PP-DB have confirmed that they have reservations about the actions of the Ministry of Defense, which raises new questions about Tagarev’s place after the government rotation.
“Bulgaria can help, but this is not happening at the required pace and I hope this will improve. We voted on the decision for armored personnel carriers almost three months ago, but in three months we cannot transport a hundred armored personnel carriers from Sofia to Ruse”, Mirchev pointed out to BNT.
The Parliament decided that Bulgaria would help Kiev with about 100 machines, including armored personnel carriers, acquired for the so-called revival process, but they can never reach Ukraine.
Tagarev explained that the delay is due to the fact that our country is checking the possibility of whether our NATO allies can finance the transport. In the end, it was taken over by the Rammstein format and no funding from the state budget was required.
However, Tagarev was severely criticized for the delay.
A week ago it became clear that the machines are still being collected from various points in the country and are yet to be transported to Ukraine by train.
“It’s not a lack of funds. It’s not about thread cutting, it’s about making the administration of the Ministry of Defense work much more optimally. Obviously, there is a problem and this problem will be solved. The rotation has nothing to do with transferring a hundred armored personnel carriers “, said Ivaylo Mirchev.
Rumen Radev and his appointed caretaker governments blocked military aid to Ukraine, but the Denkov-Gabriel cabinet blocked the process.
However, in GERB, DPS, and now also in PP-DB, there are remarks and doubts whether the Ministry of Defense acts adequately and provides the necessary assistance to Ukraine.
GERB raised the question of why the shipment of ammunition is being delayed, given that a large part of the army’s reserves are running low and Bulgaria may soon have to pay for their disposal.
