President Gustavo Petro assured that the political force that brought him to the Casa de Nariño continues to have a presence in much of Colombia, with the exception of Barranquilla and Bogotá, when making his own interpretation of the results of Sunday’s regional elections.

According to the president, 70% of the councilor seats in the entire city of Cali are from the Historical Pact: “Now there is a bench of four deputies in the assembly; Today there is only one and three councilors in Cali”he wrote on his X account.

In the middle of a presidential speech, he stated that he will meet with the different elected administrations to articulate the elected local proposals with the Government’s plan for change. “Democracy spoke out and it is our duty as rulers to abide and respect the voice of the people. “The basis of peace, the basis of transparency and the basis of democracy is in the power to choose and be elected,” he emphasized.

Petro, who was defeated with his candidate for mayor of Bogotá, Gustavo Bolívar, said that “The map of the presidential victory remains the same with the exception of Barranquilla and Bogotá. “Political strength is maintained in Bogotá.”

He added that “The advance of government forces in western Colombia is gigantic. In only Nariño and Cauca are the two governorships and 40 mayorships won.”
