On October 30, Mārtiņš Eihe’s performance “Pērs Gints. Fiction of life ”. From the play “Per Gints” to the play about feminism

Mārtiņš Eihe explained in the Latvian Radio program “Kultūras Rondo” that the source of inspiration for reflecting the feminist theme in the play is both Peer Gints’ own image and the Nordic experience of equality: “One is the motif of the play itself. something is done, experienced and Solveig is waiting for him all his life. It seems to me to be a very accurate sign of a woman sitting at home at the time. The second is because it is Norwegian work and, as we know, Scandinavia has, in my opinion, been the furthest in equality and coexistence. More precisely, Iceland, in some ways the furthest because it is small and able to quickly agree on some things. And by merging it all with poetry, it forms the backdrop to where we can talk about equality. ”

The director emphasized that for him, modern feminism is not just about women, but about people and their coexistence on equal terms.

“I think we need to talk about democracy, freedom and respect for human rights all the time,” said Eihe. “

The actors’ perception of feminism has also changed in the course of their work. They admitted that gathering facts in the process of creating the show allowed to delve into the theme of feminism, and, as actor Kārlis Tols noted, much of what I learned was a surprise: “Until then, in fact, I had only superficially delved into the theme of feminism. We looked and looked for these facts. On a global scale, of course, there are different cultures and there are completely different laws in many Muslim countries, but these facts and figures were surprising at times. ”

The topicality of Solveig’s image today

The transformation of Solveig’s image has also been rich in reflection and revelation for both actresses and actors. Actress Karina Lucinina shared her thoughts on the topicality of Solveig’s image today: “It was also interesting for me to look at Solveig from that side and also to understand what she would be like if she were today.

And what would she do if that happened now. Even if she loved her until the end of the world, would she allow herself to be one for the rest of her life? ”

Actor Kārlis Tols revealed that, in his opinion, Solveiga can also be found among women today: “Solveiga is today, and there are, as well as poets Elza Ķezbere and Ārija Elksne portrayed here. And when you read these texts, they are beautiful, poetic, but there is a lot of truth in them. And I see, for example, my grandmother, family models, beliefs, thoughts. ”

The interviewed audience also appreciated the original approach to the creation of the show, the topicality of the chosen topic and admitted that the show encourages deep reflection. The significance of this reflection is confirmed by the fact that a spectator suggested a discussion after the performance, which is also in line with the desire expressed by actor Kārlis Tols to find out the viewers’ opinion.

The play “Per Gints. Fiction of Life ”The premiere took place on October 30 at the Rezekne Theater“ Joriks ”. The production was created by director Mārtiņš Eihe and set designer Paraskēva Deikina. Starring: Karīna Lučiņina, Jekaterina Garfunkele and Kārlis Tols.
