Democracy cannot be forced on others

MOSCOWRussia said the campaign in Afghanistan must teach United States of America (USA) that democracy cannot be forced on others. This is the latest criticism that Russia has leveled against the US regarding the situation in Afghanistan.

Speaking at a joint press conference following a meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg in Vienna, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the main conclusion the US should draw from the Afghanistan war is that there is no point in teaching others how to live.

“We have observed in Libya, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan how America wants to force everyone to live according to America’s wishes. Everyone has to deal with their own problems, there are quite a few in every country,” he said.

“We must not interfere in the affairs of others. We must not use force in a way that violates the UN Charter,” he continued, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Thursday (26/8/2021).

Meanwhile, in turn, Schallenberg called the Afghanistan issue the most serious topic on the current international agenda. Also read: Almaz-Antey: Russia Can Shoot Down All Types Of Western Hypersonic Missiles

He urged the international community to do everything possible to prevent Afghanistan from becoming an incubator for international terrorism and stop a new wave of migration from there.

“Austria is making efforts to deal with the Afghanistan crisis because it considers that the evacuation of Afghans cannot be the only response to the crisis,” Schallenberg said.

“As part of this effort, Vienna will hold a conference with Afghanistan’s neighbors Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan next week,” he said. Also read: Taliban admit to having ‘good relations’ with Russia and China
