It is the state media in Myanmar that informs about the executions on the night of Monday. It is the first time in decades that death sentences have been carried out in the country.
Among the four executed are a former member of Aung San Suu Kyi’s party, Phyo Zeya Thaw, and a prominent democracy activist, Ko Jimmy, who were both sentenced to death for terrorism.
Phyo Zeya Thaw was a member of the National Democracy League and sat in the National Assembly for the party.
A spokesman for the junta, Zaw Min Tun, announced in June that the four executions would be carried out.
Over a thousand people have been killed in the unrest since the military coup in Myanmar last February.
