Demo against mandatory Covid vaccine in Greece ends in chaos

More than 4,000 people took to the streets to oppose the mandatory vaccine policy Covid-19 for the workers in Athens, Greece, Saturday (24/7).

This demonstration turned violent with the officers who forcibly dispersed the crowd using tear gas.

Launch Reuters, a police official said that some protesters were found intentionally throwing Molotov cocktails after the police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

This mass action is the third time the community has held against compulsory vaccination for workers. Previously, the demonstration last Wednesday was also colored by violence.

The latest poll found that the majority of Greeks will get a Covid-19 vaccination. Currently, about 45 percent of the 11 million population has been fully vaccinated.

After the spike in cases, the Greek government has made it mandatory to vaccinate health workers and nursing home staff. Educators are also urged to participate in the vaccination program ahead of the start of the new school year next September.

On Saturday (24/7), Greece reported nearly 2,500 daily cases. With these additions, a total of 474,366 positive cases of Covid-19 in Greece.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit Greece since last year. To date, the pandemic has claimed 12,890 lives.
