Region – The Tour de France Femmes started on Monday 12 August, with great interest. In Rotterdam, of all places, with the finish of the first stage in Kijkduin. Yesterday, Demi Vollering won the third stage. The native of Pijnacker took the yellow jersey.
Demi Vollering did not expect to win the yellow leader’s jersey in her own country, she told NOS: “I really didn’t see this coming. That I’m already taking the yellow here, in my own country. The times that I looked down at my power meter I thought: this is going well. But we just don’t do this very often. I really thought this was for the real sprinters or someone with power like Chloé Dygert.”

Berkel or Pijnacker
It was a pity that Berkel en Rodenrijs and Pijnacker-Nootdorp were not included in the route. The cycling-mad Westland was, where they probably would have paid more ‘bucks’ to have the Tour ride between the greenhouses. How great would it have been if last year’s winner, Demi Vollering, had cycled along the Noordweg/Oudeweg between Pijnacker and Nootdorp, past the greenhouse and the house of a waving grandma Brouwer, the mother of the mother of Demi, who was born in Pijnacker? In any case: Demi Vollering still enjoyed the Tour ride through her own area, where she often trained and competed in the past.
Tour of Pijnacker
While the Tour de France de Femmes is heading towards France, Pijnacker is looking forward to the 65th Cycling Day. Telstar/Eendracht of Wednesday 14 August is chock full of cycling news, with articles about Demi Vollering, the Ronde van Nootdorp and a real cycling newspaper.
