Demi Moore no longer felt comfortable in Hollywood after her 40th birthday.
The 61-year-old actress withdrew from the limelight for a time in the late 1990s to spend more time with her three daughters. When she returned to show business a few years later, Demi said she no longer felt really welcome in Hollywood. The reactions to her bikini appearance in ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’ in particular got the film icon thinking. In an interview with her colleague Michelle Yeoh for ‘Interview Magazine’, Demi explained: “I had just filmed ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and there was a lot of discussion about that scene in the bikini, it was all very intense, a lot of conversations about my appearance. And then I found that there seemed to be no place for me. I didn’t feel like I belonged. It was a feeling like I’m not 20 anymore, I’m not 30 anymore, but I wasn’t perceived as a mother yet. Where did I belong? It was a time that didn’t feel dead, but it felt shallow.”
Demi wants to achieve the goal of older actresses having a place in Hollywood with a positive attitude. “We don’t have to fight it,” she continues in the interview. “We just have to believe that something different is possible.”
