Dementia: A Disease Beyond the Elderly – Exploring its Development, Forms, and Contradictory Trends

Many people think that dementia is a disease of the elderly. But in fact, it can also manifest itself in young people. Doctors believe that the number of patients will only grow every year. But contrary to this judgment, the Tyumen Department of Health claims a decrease in the number of patients per year by 30%. But what is this disease?

It turns out that there are three forms of dementia – vascular, atrophic and mixed.

– The cause of the development of vascular dementia is diseases such as stroke, heart attack, heart rhythm disturbances, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, heart malformations, arterial hypertension with a malignant course (it occurs with high blood pressure numbers, despite regular medication). The atrophic form develops more often after traumatic brain injuries, infections, intoxications, and also with brain tumors. With a mixed form of the disease, there can be both vascular diseases and atrophy of brain cells, manifested in varying degrees, – Tatyana Taradeeva, an INVITRO therapist, explains to a 72.RU journalist.
