In court in Paris, the main suspect in the failed terrorist attack in the Thalys has been demanded for life. The prosecutor demanded prison sentences of 8 to 30 years against three co-defendants.
On August 21, 2015, the Thalys ran from Amsterdam to Paris. At the Belgian-French border, a heavily armed Moroccan terrorist tried to open fire with a Kalashnikov in the crowded train. He was overpowered by three American tourists, one of whom was a soldier.
For their intervention, they received the highest French national decoration, the National Order of the Legion of Honor.
American director Clint Eastwood made a feature film about the thwarted Thalys attack, The 15:17 to Paris. The three Americans play themselves in the film.
