In Salzburg, a campaign to promote electric vehicles for companies and businesses has exceeded the budget allocated by up to three times. As “Kronen Zeitung” and “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported on Wednesday, the funding could now cost the country up to 9.3 million euros instead of the budgeted three million euros. The action has now been stopped. The rush had been so high because the country doubled federal support.
The Climate Protection Ministry is currently working with the car importers to fund newly purchased e-vehicles with up to 10,500 euros, depending on the type and vehicle class. The state of Salzburg contributed the same amount each time. Since February, the promotion of e-commercial vehicles such as minibuses or vans has evidently generated particularly strong demand. When it became known that the pot was not only empty, but that the available funds were clearly exceeded, the country imposed a subsidy ban on March 8th. Only applications submitted up to then will be paid out.
How high the financial requirement actually is cannot yet be definitively said, said environmental officer Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens). First of all, you have to check whether all those who have registered for funding actually meet the requirements. There is only money when the registration certificate can be presented after the purchase. Schellhorn now wants to raise the additional funds required by reallocating the departmental budget, and funds from the medium-term financial plan could also be brought forward.
Schellhorn argued that the subsidy brake was not pulled earlier by stating that it was only after being asked that they found out that there was a total overbooking. Kommunalkredit Public Consulting GmbH (KPC), which was commissioned to process the funding, informed the state too late. The CCP denies this allegation in media reports. No one was aware of the limited funds available to the State of Salzburg. Regardless of this, e-mobility funding in the state is to be redesigned for the coming year. A doubling of the federal funding is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
