According to the news in the European press, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Luxembourg and Norway have sent a joint letter to the EU Commission that includes taking new measures on microplastics.
In the letter, it was pointed out that voluntary actions against microplastic waste were not enough. Calling on the EU Commission to prepare new measures to be implemented at EU level to prevent and reduce microplastics in the environment, the countries demanded the establishment of a common system across Europe to monitor microplastics in the air, water and soil to monitor and monitor compliance with the new rules.
The EU Commission will present the new measures it will determine to reduce the microplastics released into the environment by 30 percent by 2030, to the member states and the European Parliament next month. The EU also has different initiatives to ban microplastics used in cosmetics, detergents and paint products.
Microplastics, regularly shaped or amorphous polymeric particles smaller than 5 millimeters, mostly petroleum-derived and insoluble in water, have already been detected in glaciers, deep regions of the oceans and human bodies.
