A third of the Volvos sold in the world are electrified

“Volvo Cars” has had a successful year on the international market. Customers have always highly valued the “Volvo” brand, and the company continued to invest in developing technologies, modernizing the current offer and preparing new models for production.

The total sales volume reached 615,121 cars. This is 12% less than in 2021, but the decline is mainly due to problems in the supply chain and manufacturing of components, as well as restrictions imposed in China due to Covid-19.

Recharge series vehicles occupied a special place in the car market last year: the share of rechargeable hybrids and electric cars in the total volume reached one third (205,352 units), while the sale of battery electric cars increased by 159.5%.

As a result of strong demand, every ninth new Volvo was an electric car. At the same time, the demand for plug-in hybrids decreased by 15.2%.

The best-selling model overall was again the XC60 (195,338), followed by the XC40 (169,206) and the XC90 (97,130).

“Volvo Cars” CEO Jim Rowan has announced that the biggest driving force in increasing the manufacturer’s market share will be the new compact SUV that the company will present in mid-2023. According to the head of Volvo, the new model will attract younger buyers, while not detracting from sales of other popular Volvo models.

“Mūsa Motors Rīga” increases turnover by 30%

“The current situation created stress for all industries, both internationally and locally, but as we close 2022, we could conclude with satisfaction that the set goals have been achieved and the year was even more successful than we had hoped. Yes, the demand exceeded the manufacturer’s ability to supply cars , however, we have fulfilled both our and Volvo’s plans in our region,” says Normunds Piebalgs, director of “Mūsa Motors Rīga”.

The taste of customers in Latvia did not change last year: the most requested “Volvo” model was the XC90, it was chosen by a third of buyers, while the second place at the head of the request was occupied by the XC60.

The area in which “Mūsa Motors Rīga” experienced particularly strong growth in 2022 was the sale of used cars – the annual turnover in this segment increased two and a half times.

“Last year, we changed our emphasis in the sale of used vehicles. While continuing to sell commission cars, we made much greater efforts to expand the offer of MMR used cars, and it paid off, as the sales doubled as a result of this approach. This is also important because the sale of used cars in general is developing into a significant line of business both manufacturers and their official representatives, and our customers already know that the cars available in the “Volvo Selekt” program represent the highest quality,” explains the director of MMR.

Currently MMR used cars on the website (lietotiauto.musamotors.lv) more than 100 cars are permanently available, and it is planned to increase their number according to demand.

In 2022, MMR significantly increased the service capacity in the maintenance of “Volvo” brand cars. “Faster service work and an individual approach have a big impact on customer satisfaction, so increasing the service capacity by about 15% was very important. Our goal in 2023 is to work even smarter and more efficiently to make the work flow as smooth and predictable as possible,” he adds. Will pay attention.

Development plans for LEVC and “Polestar”

Another important news in the operation of “Mūsa Motors Rīga” in 2022 – the company has acquired the status of the official representative of the car manufacturer “Polestar”. MMR can provide maintenance and repair of Polestar cars, but may start selling them in the future. Currently, the Geely Holding Group brand has three models in its lineup: a high-performance hybrid and two electric cars.

Important news in 2023 is also expected from the producer LEVC represented by MMR.

Inheriting the tradition of London’s world-famous taxis, LEVC launched the current TX5 model in 2018, and since its introduction, 9,000 cars have been sold worldwide. Along with the TX5, the light commercial vehicle VN5 was launched. Both models are characterized by a design designed for long-term service and an economical hybrid device that allows driving in pure electric mode.

At the end of 2022, LEVC announced a new development strategy, which envisages expanding the offer and producing completely new models of the next generation alongside the taxi. Information about them will be available in the first quarter of this year.

“The unique construction, materials and special ergonomics of LEVC products attracted very wide attention, and these characteristics will remain in the new models. At the same time, a much more attractive price policy is expected from the manufacturer,” said the director of MMR.

The main highlights of the activity of “Mūsa Motors Rīga” in 2023 are related to increasing the sales volume of new cars, used vehicles and after-sales services.

“Volvo” is in high demand, and we will work so that the number of new cars registered in 2023 exceeds 400 units. We will increase availability in service, but in the sale of spare parts we will pay more attention to post-warranty cars, for which we can already offer a special “4+ 6+ 8 +” factory discount program. We will focus on the Volvo brand in the trade of used cars. We want it to make up around 70% of sales,” says Piebalgs.

The most awaited novelty of 2023 – “Volvo” EX90

One of the most awaited news of 2023 in the entire automotive world is the “Volvo” EX90 – “Volvo’s” new flagship, which is planned to go on sale in the last quarter of this year.

The new car will take a place above the XC90 in the manufacturer’s offer, but will not replace it. The seven-seater is 5037 mm long (+84 mm compared to the XC90), 1964 mm wide and 1744 mm high.

It will be available only with an electric drive and two motors that will provide all-wheel drive. Initially, two versions will be released – with 408 and 517 hp, and the WLTP mileage reserve figure will be 585 and 580 kilometers, respectively.

Traditionally for the Volvo brand, the EX90 will represent a new step in the field of active and passive safety. The manufacturer believes that the solutions incorporated in the new model will reduce the number of accidents by 20 percent (compared to the XC90).

Its EX90 will include the Pilot Assist system for autonomous driving as standard. Its operation is ensured by the “Luminar” lidar, which is able to analyze the environment and, for example, identify pedestrians even at a distance of 250 meters. In addition, the car will be equipped with 16 ultrasonic sensors, eight cameras and five radars, as well as a special interior monitoring system.

Control of comfort and other functions is included in the 14.5-inch central screen, but for interior decoration, Volvo has developed new products that use recycled materials.

“The EX90 is a next-generation car that raises all aspects of car use – from safety to performance and comfort – to a completely new level. More information about the EX90 will be available no later than the third quarter of this year,” adds MMR director Piebalgs.
