The 48-year-old Boerekamp worked between 2014 and 2017 at the Amsterdam notary office Voorwinde. According to the notarial rules, that would certainly not have been possible, because Boerekamp was removed from office in 2012. He had withdrawn money from the all-important trust account in his own office. This account contains funds from customers, for example for a mortgage. It is considered a mortal sin for a notary to withdraw money from this account for other purposes.

As an ex-notary, he then did exactly the same at Voorwinde, the public prosecutor said. The namesake of the notary’s office was sentenced to two years in prison last March for embezzlement and forgery and was also removed from office. Boerekamp was also summoned in March 2020 to explain his role, but his health did not cooperate and he did not appear several times after calls from the court. See you Monday. He was unable to escape through a video connection.
In itself, it was already a mess at the Voorwinde office. Owner Bart Voorwinde had already taken 560,000 euros from the third-party account for his own investment. But instead of being warned, René Boerekamp concealed much more money by producing 26 counterfeit bank statements and writing two e-mails on behalf of a customer, which made it seem as if she didn’t mind if her money was left in the bank. trust account was used for other purposes.
In total, about 1.5 million euros was squeezed back. Meanwhile, Boerekamp received a considerable amount for his illegal activities. During the hearing, the public prosecutor calculated that it concerns a total amount of about eight tons.
Boerekamp stated via the video link that he felt he had no other choice. He was grounded after his own expulsion and Voorwinde welcomed him as a friend and employer. The court asked whether Boerekamp felt his conscience gnawing at the falsification of the 26 bank account statements. “That choice was actually only made in my head the first time. I had crossed the threshold. After that the damage was done and I couldn’t go back. I was called upon. There were more colleagues with families there at the office. I did it for them too.”
Despite the two business catastrophes, Boerekamp once again drew up deeds in 2018 and 2019 for the Amsterdam legal consultancy De Familiejurist. Notaries, who had to sign his work, did not know that an ex-notary had drawn up the documents. The presiding judge of the court: “It seems as if the rules do not apply to you.”
