Pantura Route Demak-Kudus, Central Java, was cut off due to the left embankment of the Wulan River breaking, inundating the route which is always busy with vehicles, Sunday (17/3).

“We have thought about diverting traffic from Semarang via Purwodadi,” said Central Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Pol Ahmad Lutfi together with the Commander of Kodam IV/Diponegoro Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi and his staff while visiting the refugee camp at the Kudus DPRD, Sunday.

The broken Wulan river embankment caused traffic flow on this route to become congested. For this reason, parking pockets have been prepared so that drivers can rest.

“Some vehicles are also in one lane on the road guarded by traffic officers. We have also reported this to the Minister of PUPR,” he said.

The Demak Police Traffic Unit diverted small vehicles heading to Pati and Surabaya via the Trengguli Route towards Mijen-Welahan-Jepara-Kudus-Pati.

To reduce the density of vehicles crossing this route, the Kudus Police Traffic Unit in coordination with the Rembang and Pati Police Traffic Unit directed three-axle vehicles to Semarang via Blora and Grobogan.

“We have coordinated with the Pati and Rembang Police Traffic Units, so that trucks with axles are directed to the Blora and Grobogan routes following the route via Jepara which is quite busy,” said Kaur Bin Ops (KBO) of Kudus Police Traffic Unit Inspector Noor Alifi.

Meanwhile, the Undaan-Grobogan route is currently undergoing repairs on the Babalan Bridge, so the condition is also quite congested.

Regarding traffic diversions, the Kudus Police Traffic Unit has also installed instructions so that drivers do not get confused.

Several vehicles that had already crossed Kudus appeared to be parked on Jalan Pantura Kudus. This can be seen in front of the Jati Kudus Main Terminal, a multi-axle truck parked.
