In Mexico City, it is estimated that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is already dominant in the total of positive cases of the virus, reported the Secretary of Health of the capital, Olivia López Arellano.
“Indeed, the Delta variant is already the dominant one, we are estimating about 60 or 65 percent of all positive cases, “he said at a press conference.
He explained that although not all tests are sequenced to identify the SARSCoV-2 virus variant, they estimate that out of every 100 positive cases, 60 are of the Delta variant, which has rapidly displaced the Gamma, Alpha and “Mexican” variants present in the capital.
“The Mexican variant is being displaced, so to speak, that one is practically reducing its proportion. There is about 20 percent that has been identified from the Alpha variant and slightly more from the Gamma variant, and 60 percent is estimated to be the Delta variant, ”he said.
In that sense, the secretary recalled that from the following week the taking of COVID testing in shopping centers and pharmacies, as well as in modules of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), where people can go whether or not they are entitled, health centers and kiosks.
Yesterday, authorities of the Government of Mexico City reported that the territory will remain in yellow traffic light next week, from Monday 18 to Sunday 25 July.
In this third wave of the pandemic, they indicated that the positive cases for COVID-19 maintain an upward trend, with the group of people aged 18 to 39 years the ‘red light’ of infections.
