What is the risk of hospitalization for the Delta variant?

The study shows that, of the total universe of infected people, one in 50 that entered by Covid-19 within 14 days of your positive result.

The results by variant indicate that 2.2% of those hospitalized infected were infected with the Alpha variant, while 2.3% of those admitted reached a hospital bed for the Delta variant.

“This study confirms previous findings that suggested that in people with the Delta (variant) it is significantly more likely to require hospitalization“, he claimed Gavin Dabrera, one of the study’s co-authors.

To determine the increased risk of hospitalization due to the Delta variant, the research group considered factors such as the predisposition to develop severe symptoms such as age, ethnicity and vaccination.

Their conclusions ensure that the risk of hospitalization is 2.26 times higher in a Covid-19 infection associated with the Delta variant.

Can I go to the hospital if I am already vaccinated?

The study is one of the largest conducted in the United Kingdom, one of the countries recently affected by a wave of infections led by the Delta variant.

Their results confirm that a complete vaccination schedule, two doses or a single one according to the type of vaccine, is still very effective against the symptomatic infection and hospitalization.

These data were confirmed for both Delta variant infections and Alpha variant infections.

The data confirmed the research team’s statement about the risk of hospitalization in three scenarios: complete vaccination, incomplete schedule, and unvaccinated.

  • Only 1.8% of those hospitalized infected had a full scheme vaccination.
  • 24% of those hospitalized infected had a partial scheme with one of two doses required.
  • 74% of those infected hospitalized had not received any of the doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
