A study was conducted in Singapore on the effectiveness of mRNA vaccines against the Delta variant of the coronavirus. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on Wednesday announced that full immunization against COVID-19 with Moderna and Pfizer formulations provides 69 percent protection against Delta infection.

The minister also said that two doses of the vaccine protect against symptomatic COVID-19 with an effectiveness “between 80 and 90 percent.” The research of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and the Ministry of Health also shows that 93 percent of the preparations are prevent severe disease and death. Kenneth Mak, director of medical services, reported that vaccinated patients were infected with the Delta variant asymptomatically or with slight symptoms.

The study lasted from September 2020 to May this year. One thousand households were analyzed in which one person was diagnosed with coronavirus infection.
