A Delta Air Lines Airbus A330 landed last Thursday morning in front of the Oostbaan at Schiphol. The airline is making itself heard about the incident.
Due to the strong wind on January 12, the aircraft landed on the Oostbaan that day. The runway has a length of just over two kilometres, making it by far the shortest at the North Holland airport. The A330 ended up on the unpaved section and hit two runway lighting lamps. The runway was out of order for hours. The Buitenveldertbaan was opened, but that could not prevent a lot of delays and aircraft had to circle for some time above the North Sea, South Holland and Flevoland before they could land.

Although the A330 was able to taxi to the gate without any problems after landing, the Dutch Safety Board (OVV) immediately came to Schiphol to see if more investigation was needed. Delta said it wanted to fully cooperate with this. “With the safety of our customers and crew as our top priority, we will support the investigation of this event and ensure a full review through our safety management system in coordination with the OVV,” a Delta spokesperson said. The OVV had about a day and a half for that exploratory investigation. Delta’s A330 landed at Schiphol around eight o’clock on Thursday morning. Expectation was according to Flightradar24 that the plane would leave for Boston later that day. But that flight was cancelled.
