Delta Fiber wants to provide a quarter of the Netherlands with fiber optics – IT Pro – News

Delta Fiber will expand its fiber optic network in the coming years. It wants to be able to offer fiber optic internet in a quarter of the Netherlands by 2025, with which about two million homes and businesses must be connected.

With this expansion to two million fiber optic connections, Delta Fiber is mainly targeting small towns and cities, reports Marco Visser, director of Delta Fiber. This year, the provider hopes to achieve one million fiber optic connections. The company installs approximately 20,000 new connections per month.

Delta Fiber has been promised an investment amount of 1.45 billion euros for the expansion plans, from ABN Amro, ING and Deutsche Bank, among others. That amount can be expanded by another 600 million euros.

From September, all new fiber connections will be XGS-PON connections that support speeds of up to 10Gbit/s. Delta Fiber made a with known that 10Gbit/s speeds will be available next year. Delta Fiber will soon announce which speeds the company will offer in places where the technology is used, and which monthly amounts customers have to pay for this. The XGS-PON fiber optic technology will eventually enable speeds of 25 Gbit/s.
