Meteor Rain Delta Aquarids will greet the night sky until the end of August. However, celestial phenomenon This will experience its peak on Monday (31/7).

At its peak, this annual phenomenon that occurs from July 18 to August 21 is usually at its peak in late July.

The Delta Aquarids meteor shower has some of the best views in the Southern Hemisphere. However, areas in the north, such as northern America, can still see this phenomenon.

Quoted from Earthsky, the best time to see the Delta Aquarid meteor shower is around 02.00 in the morning when the meteor shower’s radiance is at its peak. While the light from these dim meteors might be eclipsed by an almost full Moon, a time close to Moonset might help offset that.

The Delta Aquarid meteor shower tends to be dimmer than the Perseid meteor shower. Thus, a dark sky without the Moon is essential to enjoy this phenomenon.

In addition to passing meteors, about 5-10 percent of Delta Aquariid meteors leave a trail of ionized gas that glows and lasts a second or two after the meteor passes.

The Delta Aquarids’ radian point is near the dim star Skat, or Delta Aquarii. This star rises at midnight, is highest around 2 a.m. and lowest in the sky at dawn.

The Delta Aquarids meteor shower is thought to have formed from the remnants of comet 96/P Machholz. The comet is named after the radian point located in the Delta Aquarii (Skat) star in the constellation Aquarius.

Comet 96P/Machholz dust and two groups of comets (Marsden and Kracht), as well as the asteroid 2003 EH1 are known to produce eight meteor showers, including the Delta Aquariids. These meteor showers and comets appear to have had a common origin, although they are now slightly diverging in their orbits.
