The Brussels Court of Appeal will deliver its judgment in the Boël case by 29 October at the latest. The lawyers of Delphine Boël and King Albert announced this on Thursday afternoon after the last hearing in the file. At that hearing, King Albert no longer disputed legal paternity, but argued on Delphine Boël’s request to bear the surname of her legal father, and the titles “Her Royal Highness” and “Princess of Belgium”.

“The essential has been achieved, as no one is still in doubt that Delphine is the daughter of Albert II,” says master Marc Uyttendaele, Delphine Boël’s lawyer. “This session was therefore about the consequences of that recognition. These are things that belong to her, just as they belong to the other children of King Albert. My client never had any other intention than to be treated in exactly the same way as the other children of the king, her brothers and sister. The title of princess is therefore not important in itself, but we cannot accept that a child is treated differently from the other. What we ask for Ms Boël also applies by extension to her children. ”
According to master Alain De Jonge, Delphine Boël especially wants to bear the title of princess in order to be treated as equal to her brothers and sister, King Philippe, Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent: “The slightest distinction in treatment could be used by others to discriminate and this procedure has just been launched to end discrimination. ”
“King Albert has behaved in the wisdom of the court of appeal when it comes to the recognition of legal paternity, now it has been established that he is the biological father of Mrs. Boël, something he did not know,” says master Alain Berenboom, the king’s lawyer. “There have been arguments about the consequences of that recognition, about the name and title of princess. In our view, Mrs Boël should take administrative steps especially for the latter. In our opinion, the court cannot grant that title, only the executive power can. Furthermore, this is the end of a case that was painful for all parties, including King Albert who became involved in this without being asked. ”
THIS IS IT. The royal family: Delphine Boël

With the amount of illegitimate children kings of old had, half the population of any kingdom would be royals. Dream on, Delphine.
