Delphine Boël, daughter of King Albert, wants to become princess of Belgium | NOW

Delphine Boël, who at the beginning of this year turned out to be the biological daughter of King Albert after DNA research, wants “exactly the same privileges, titles and qualities as her two brothers and her sister”. Her lawyer reported this according to a journalist Wim Dehandschutter Thursday in the last session in the case against King Albert.

The artist therefore wants to become Princess of Belgium and receive the title of Her Royal Highness. In addition, Boël wants to adopt the surname Saxe-Coburg.

If Boël wants the same privileges as her half-brothers Philippe and Laurent and half-sister Astrid, this means that the artist would also receive an income and a home from the state. The hand gunner reports Twitter that this is not the case, because Boël is not a presumptive heir to the throne. Astrid and Laurent received the grant “by way of exception”.

Only (future) grandchildren of the king may receive the title ‘prince’ or ‘princess’, as was determined in an amendment to the law in 2015. Since Boël was born in 1968, the judge can decide that she can still be given the title ‘princess’ with retroactive effect.

Boël has claimed for years that she is a daughter of Albert II. She went to court in 2013 and demanded that the former king take a DNA test. At the beginning of this year, this test showed that the king is indeed her biological father. He has also decided to no longer legally challenge his legal paternity.

Boël’s mother Sybille de Selys Longchamps is said to have had a relationship with the monarch between 1966 and 1984. Albert II was king of Belgium for almost twenty years. Although he is no longer the head of state, he was allowed to retain the title of ‘king’ after his abdication. His son Filip took over the throne from him more than five years ago.
