Dell XPS 13 is among the best laptops on the market, and has a design that has remained more or less the same for several years.
Two of the bigger news in recent years have been the addition of a white model and 16:10 format on the screen, but this year Dell is really hitting the big drum and overtaking almost the entire PC.
A completely new type of PC
Now wait a minute
On the outside, it looks like a regular Dell XPS, but when you open the screen cover on the XPS 13 Plus, things get a little different. You will soon notice that the trackpad is gone.
Or, it’s not gone, it’s just not visible. Dell has replaced the previous trackpad with what they refer to as a “haptic ForcePad” disc, which works in the same way as the MacBook’s (which is admittedly visible). You can not physically press down on the trackpad, but it feels that way through haptic feedback, ie small vibrations, which are sent out.
We can certainly imagine that it takes a little getting used to using a trackpad you can not see, but opposite The Verge says Dell that they believe that muscle memory makes habituation go fast.
And… Touch Bar?
But it is not just here that we are talking about radical changes. If you move your gaze a little forward, you will see that the traditional and combined row of F and multimedia is gone. Instead, it is replaced with capacitive touch buttons that light up. This LED row is a bit reminiscent of Apple’s now retired Touch Bar, which was launched for the MacBook Pro a few years ago.
By default, you can touch to adjust brightness, volume and the like, but you can also bring up the F-row like this on other laptops.
The latest news is that the keyboard has been extended and extends all the way to the edges of the PC. The space between the keys is also removed, making the keys larger.
4K and OLED
As for the screen, you can configure it with up to 4K UHD +, and the PC comes with both LCD and OLED panels. The latter will probably give the best image, but is probably more power-intensive than the LCD panel.
Inside is Intel’s new 12th generation Intel Core processor, and here you can choose up to Intel Core i7-1280P at 4.8 GHz. It can be paired with up to 32 GB LPDDR5 memory and 2 TB SSD storage.
OFF connectivity options, it is equipped with two USB-C connectors, but away is the microSD card reader standard XPS 13 has and in fact also the audio connector. Is it the start of a new trend in the PC industry, which has long been standard among mobile phone manufacturers?
Dell XPS 13 Plus comes with either Windows 11 or Ubuntu 20.04 in a Developer Edition.
In a press release, Dell writes that the XPS 13 Plus will be available during the spring, but as of now there are no Norwegian prices on the PC. In the US, it gets a starting price of 1199.99 dollars, which at today’s exchange rate is equivalent to 9900 kroner.
