Dell working on XPS laptop with detachable keyboard – Computer – News

A good question. For me as an older tweaker I say that a laptop and computer that you put on your lap and can operate with keyboard and possibly a pointer control (mouse stick, touch pad, touch screen, scroll wheels…) A tablet is a single plank that you usually hold in your hands and do just about everything with it. So far so good.

From a computer technology point of view I say that a laptop consists of approximately 2 shelves with a hinge in between. As a rule, just about all the technology of a laptop is located in the lower part, with a keyboard at the top and possibly also the pointer control. The screen part is practically only for the display and is hingedly coupled. As a rule, the screen part also contains the antennas, but as a rule not much more. To put it bluntly: The bottom part with the keyboard is the computer, the screen can (in theory) come off.

This makes me wonder what and how this Dell has technology in the keyboard part. If the screen can be used as a tablet, then at least it contains all the technology for that purpose. Then the keyboard part is only keyboard and furthermore especially extra / supplement such as extra battery or extra storage or extra connection options.

My personal idea: My bifold, 11-inch chromebook (pricewatch: Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 CB 11IGL05 (82BB0012MH)) also works as a tablet and (also) replaces the 10-inch Samsung tablet (pricewatch: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9,7″ WiFi 32GB (2016) Zwart).
