The Southern regional union of CCOO of Madrid, together with the Ateneo 1º de Mayo Trade Union Foundation and at the proposal of the Friends of the Museum of Getafe Association, has called an event this Wednesday to deliver several copies of “Amanecer”, the book of poems written by Pedro Patiño, for the six municipal libraries of Getafe.
Patiño, a resident of Getafe, was murdered in 1971 in the Zarzaquemada neighborhood of Leganes while distributing propaganda and calling for a strike in the construction sector. His memory is usually remembered, both in the streets dedicated to him and in the usual institutional tributes. both from Getafe like from Leganés.
Precisely, the Ateneo 1º de Mayo Trade Union Foundation edited the poems written by Pedro Patiño a few months ago. 38 unpublished poems, accompanied by illustrations by María José Molina Rayo. According to the union Comisiones Obreras, the publication of this work aims to rescue the creative and practically unknown side of Pedro Patiño, a trade unionist murdered on September 13, 1971 during a general construction strike in which 40 hours of work were demanded. and 400 pesetas salary.
The donation event takes place this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room of the historic Getafe Flour Factory, and will be attended by Dolores Sancho Silvestre, widow of Pedro Patiño, and with the reading of some poems by Almudena García Bravo, Matías Muñoz, Susana Obrero and Mario Obrero.
