Deliveries of Aurus Merlon electric motorcycles may begin in 2024 for both government agencies and individuals. This was announced to TASS by the director of the “Motorcycle” direction of the project of the NAMI Unified Modular Platform Evgeny Torzhenov.
“Deliveries for government agencies and the so-called SOP, start of production, are planned for 2024. And then it is planned that civilian users will also be able to buy such an object,” he said.
In February 2023, it was reported that the start of production is scheduled for 2025.
Testing of the Aurus Merlon began in 2022. The peak power of the prototype is 140 kW, and the maximum acceleration value is set at 200 km/h. The dynamics of acceleration of the motorcycle from 0 to 100 km / h will be 3.7 seconds.
The Merlon’s cruising range will be approximately 200 km, and one of the performance features is the ability to use the vehicle at low temperatures – up to minus 25 degrees Celsius.
Initially, it was assumed that a heavy-duty motorcycle would be used to perform a number of tasks of the departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergencies. However, private customers will also be able to purchase an electric motorcycle.
NAMI will produce no more than 300 Aurus Merlon motorcycles for private owners in 2024. “No more than 300 units per year,” Torzhenov said, adding that a confirmed order from a special purpose garage had also been formed, but its volume was not disclosed.
According to him, NAMI does not expect a large demand among private traders for an electric motorcycle due to its high cost compared to gasoline competitors.
“This is an ultra-small series and a batch, we understand that this kind of object cannot enjoy any mass popularity for some reason. The first is its cost, it will obviously be more expensive, because it is a piece production, and it is electric, that is, it will be one and a half to two times more expensive than gasoline counterparts. The second is dependence on charging, sockets. From a stationary charging station, it charges in about an hour, from a simple household outlet – in 8-10 hours, ”he said.
