The rainbow flag of an LGBTQ+ association in Delft was deliberately burned, the police reported. This probably happened in the night from Saturday to Sunday. The flag hung on the facade of the building on the Lange Geer in the city center.
It is the flag of DWH, an association that offers a meeting place for the LGBTIQ + community and is committed to more rights and acceptance. The board says it regrets that “the actions of a few people can have such an impact on the sense of security”.
The vandalism was noticed on Sunday morning. The police “immediately came by” to record the report, the association reports.
DWH calls the incident the latest in a series of attacks that the association and the members “has had to pay for in recent times”.
“In the past, flags were stolen, windows smashed and members harassed and threatened in front of the building. We also notice an increase in these types of events in the broader perspective of the abuse of a Jong&Out volunteer in Eindhoven and drag café employees in Groningen.”
Police suspect arson and are appealing for witnesses.
