Delhi Police to Probe Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations Against BJP’s Parvesh verma: Election Official
The political landscape in New Delhi has been stirred by allegations from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma. Kejriwal has accused Verma of violating the moral code of conduct (MCC) by distributing cash and organizing job camps under the “Har Ghar Naukari” campaign.
The New Delhi district election officer (DEO) has forwarded these complaints to the police for further inquiry, as reported by news agency PTI. Kejriwal’s claims include allegations that Verma distributed ₹1100 in cash and set up job camps, which he argues fall under corrupt practices as per the Election Commission’s rules.
“these things come under corrupt practices under the rules and regulations of the Election Commission.Parvesh Verma should be barred from contesting elections and his house should be raided to find out how much money he has at his house,” Kejriwal stated after meeting the Election Commission.
‘No Evidence’ Yet
Despite the allegations, the police have been tasked with investigating the facts and taking action under relevant sections of the Representation of Peoples Act. The DEO submitted an action-taken report to the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Delhi, which included instructions to prevent the holding of job camps on January 15.
However, in separate reports, poll officials noted that flying squads tasked with checking MCC violations did not find any camps or pamphlets, as alleged by the AAP.
Collusion and Voter deletion Claims
Kejriwal further alleged that the local election officer of the New Delhi assembly constituency had “surrendered” to the BJP. “He is facilitating all the wrongdoings of the BJP…The ECI has assured us that they will not allow all these practices to happen and strict action will be taken…The local DEO and ERO should be suspended,” he claimed. The former Delhi chief minister also raised concerns about arbitrary voter deletion from the electoral rolls of the New Delhi constituency. These allegations were rejected by the poll official, who stated in a post on social media platform X that field investigations did not prove any such claims.
The election officer also addressed allegations of illegal additions and deletions, clarifying that “mere filling of form 7 and form 6 doesn’t amount to addition or deletion of names from the electoral roll.”
